Announcement of the 2nd European Shipyard Week
As in all high-tech sectors, success is first of all based on knowledge and innovation. European Shipyards’ highly-skilled workforce is a key factor in ensuring productivity, innovation and competitiveness. The European Shipyard Week 2008 – entitled “Sea your future” – aims at making young graduates and highly-skilled workers aware of the exciting opportunities resulting from the dynamic evolution of shipyards. Modern shipbuilding offers manifold perspectives, posting new challenges regarding skills and adaptability in a high-tech job environment.

“Sea your future!”
The European Shipyard Week 2008 is a joint initiative of the sector’s social partners. It was held with great success for the first time in 2006 and will this year be conducted in cooperation with regional partners. The Week will be officially launched by a conference at the Committee of the Regions on 2nd April 2008hosted by the German Land of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and supported by the Committee of the Regions.
The European Union has understood that the oceans and seas are our future. The adoption of the Blue Paper in 2007 highlighted this point and LeaderSHIP 2015, the sector’s industry policy has made clear that maritime manufacturing is a cornerstone for prosperous and sustainable maritime business in Europe. During the conference, participants are invited to Sea your Future! directly by meeting trainees and young professionals from shipyards all over Europe. The yards will send their top youngsters to Brussels for the “European Shipyards’ Next Generation Party“, which will start in the evening after the conference.
During the Week, numerous events will take place in all main European shipbuilding countries at national, regional and local level. Detailed programmes of various events will be again featured by a web-page, hosted by CESA:

This campaign comes along with a large number of shipyards offering concrete career opportunities for experienced workers and engineers as well as for apprentices. The CESA web-site exhibits a list of job opportunities at European shipyards:

The European Shipyard Week 2008 – “Sea your future” is carried out jointly by European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) and the Community of European Shipyards’ Associations (CESA) as an initiative of the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee in shipbuilding.
