Successful outcome of Dacia strike

17/04/2008

After a 3-week strike, employees at the Renault Group’s Romanian plant, Dacia, have accepted the new offer from management and called off their strike.

The agreement provides uniform wage increases, as follows:

> 300 lei, i.e. + 80 €, as of 1st January 2008
> 60 lei, i.e. + 16 €, as of 1st September 2008,
which means a general increase of 96 € per month,
plus a monthly bonus for results for 2007 amounting to 20 €.

The above represents a 34% increase for the Dacia employees.

EMF General Secretary, Peter Scherrer, congratulated the Dacia workers and their trade unions for carrying out a massive strike in such an exemplary manner. “Their movement can be seen as an active contribution to the building up of an enlarged Social Europe” he commented. “It shows that the workers and their unions in the New Member States can mobilise successfully to help significantly close the gap in wages and working conditions.”
